MATA AGREES CONTRACT EXTENSION AT UNITED

Spanish midfielder Juan Manuel Mata has agreed a contract extension with Premier League outfit Manchester United. His previous Red Devils contract ended at the end of last month and he has reached an agreement to extend his contract at the Theatre of Dreams for one more year. It was announced on Friday that the Spaniardhas reached a one-year contract extension with the Red Devils. Mata will stay at Old Trafford until June 2022 after the agreement between him and the club was made official.

Mata joined Manchester United from Premier League rivals Chelseain January 2014 while West Ham United boss David Moyes was the manager at Old Trafford. The Red Devils paid around £37m to sign the Spanish international. The former Valencia player has scored 51 goals in 273 games for Manchester United since moving to the club.

Manchester United midfielder Mata scored three goals in 18 games in all competitions last season. He was on target on the final day of the Premier League campaign last term as Manchester United beat hosts Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1. Mata rarely started for Manchester United in the Premier League last season. He was in the starting XI for the Wolves game due to the first team players being rested for the Europa League final.

Apart from handing Mata anew one-year deal, Manchester United have also given goalkeeper Lee Grant a new one-year contract extension. The veteran goalkeeper has penned a new deal at Old Trafford after his previous contractat the club ended last month. Grant has been at Manchester United since joining on a free transfer three years ago after the expiration of his contract at Stoke City. Grant has played twice for the Manchester United first team since his move to the club in 2018. He is one of four first team goalkeepers at Old Trafford.
