Manchester United confirm loan deal for Tahith Chong

Manchester United have confirmed that Tahith Chong has been loaned out to Werder Bremen for the 2020/21 campaign. The Dutch attacker is regarded as the one of the best players to have come out of the club’s academy, but he has yet to make a notable impression with the first-team squad under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

He managed to sign a new two-year extension with the club earlier this year and he has now been handed the opportunity to prove himself with a temporary switch to Bremen, where he will have the guarantee of regular game time. A statement from the club’s website read: “Manchester United winger Tahith Chong, a product of the club's fabled Academy, is set to gain valuable first-team experience in the forthcoming new season by joining Werder Bremen on loan. The talented 20-year-old will spend the full 2020/21 campaign in Germany, and could make his competitive debut in a month's time with the Bundesliga due to begin on 18 September.”

The Red Devils have seen a number of graduates make the step to the senior squad over the years and Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams made their breakthrough during the recent campaign. Both of them were rewarded for their efforts with new contracts, but the club may still more quality from the squad from elsewhere to challenge for the title.
Hence, they are pressing with their efforts to land Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, but so far, there has been no agreement in place with the German outfit. Dortmund have made it clear that they won’t accept anything less than £108m for the England international and that remains a potential stumbling block for the Red Devils at the current point of time. Still, a move can’t be ruled out and they may make their move after recouping funds from the sale of few outcasts.
