United boss Sir Alex Ferguson changed his entire team from Sunday's win against Chelsea and paid the price.

The Irish FA has revealed that Manchester United defender Jonny Evans was the player fined along with Keith Gillespie for misbehaviour after the Euro 2008 qualifier in Iceland.

Gillespie was fined a larger sum for fighting on an aeroplane as the team boarded their flight to London.

Evans was not punished in relation to that incident but for drinking after the defeat in Reykjavik.

Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo admitted it was a special night after hitting the winner at former club Sporting Lisbon.

"It's a perfect night for me. I scored and the team won. So it's been a great night for me and United," he told Sky Sports at the final whistle.

Manchester United winger Nani admitted it was a "special feeling" as he helped defeat his old team Sporting Lisbon 1-0 last night.

"It is a very special feeling, it was here that I played great games and I developed. It was very good to come back and see this stadium full, with two teams who play good football," said Nani.

Manchester United's Brazilian-t attacker Anderson has spoken about getting booed at their match against his old rivals Sporting.

The former Porto star was booed by Sporting fans and said: "It happens at every club, it's normal in football. It went for two or three minutes and later it died down."

Sir Alex Ferguson was also able to look back with satisfaction on a 70-minute appearance by Wayne Rooney.

The England striker has not played since breaking his foot on the opening day of the season but now seems certain to figure against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday.

"It was difficult for Wayne, having to play up front on his own," he said.
