Hugo Lloris has tried to diffuse the rumours linking him with Manchester United

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has tried to diffuse the rumours linking him with Manchester United by saying that the Premier League giants still have David de Gea on their books.

The Spaniard has been one of the top goalkeepers in the world in the last 12 months. However, he has only 12 months left on his contract and is widely expected to seal a move to the Santiago Bernebeu to play for his hometown club – Real Madrid. Even though United signed former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes during the January transfer window, it is thought that manager Louis Van Gaal does not see him as a number one right now.

After a string of great performances for Tottenham, Lloris has been mentioned as a potential successor for De Gea. The Frenchman was a major reason behind Spurs finishing above Liverpool in the league table. He was involved in the French national team’s 4-3 defeat at the hands of Belgium. Despite having conceded four goals, it would be wrong to speak only about Lloris and his qualities as a top goalkeeper. His ability on the ball will be a crucial factor in deciding a potential transfer to Old Trafford. For the moment, he has tried to diffuse the transfer rumours. PSG are also interested in his services.

"At the moment De Gea is still a goalkeper at Manchester United so I have no reason to speak about that. For any player you need to play at a high level to improve yourself and be performing [well] to help the team and the national team improve.I think every player wants to play in this competition because it's a high level, We work for that, we work every day for that and I hope I get another chance in my career to play in the Champions League,” said Lloris.
