Vidic: Rio could be Top Scorer!

  • 24 October 2007

NEMANJA Vidic has tipped defensive partner Rio Ferdinand to top Manchester United's scoring charts if he carries on at his present rate.

"If Rio keeps going like this, he is going to finish up top scorer," smiled the tough-tackling Serb. "He did brilliantly for his goal and he had another chance apart from that.

"We have always felt there were a lot of goals in this team and now it seems to have clicked for us at last. Obviously, the strikers are the ones we tend to rely on but if defenders can chip in as well, that can only be good news for everyone."

Typically, the 26-year-old tried to continue against the Latics after his accidental collision with Marcus Bent. But in the end, the discomfort proved too much for the Belgrade-born player, who was then forced to miss Serbia's Euro 2008 double-header with Armenia and Azerbaijan, plus United's win at Aston Villa.

"I had two knocks against Wigan, not one," he recalled. "I did try to carry on for another 10 minutes or so but I didn't feel well at all, so I had to come off. Now, I feel much better.

"I did stay back at corners but only because it was my first game back and I wanted to see how I felt. I am sure I will go up for corners against Middlesbrough on Saturday."
