Manchester United have once again proved that their standing in the game has not diminished despite a very poor campaign last season. United finished seventh in the table last season and will be without any form of European football this campaign. Despite this, they have managed to sign a record-breaking sponsorship deal with Adidas. The German sportswear giant will be taking over as the new kit supplier for United after Nike decided to drop out in the last few weeks.

US sportswear maker Nike has been supplying the United merchandise since 2002. They have been paying the club around £ 24 million per season. United previously held the record for the sponsorship amount from kit supplier, but they have seen the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, and Real Madrid overtake them in recent times. They have once again bounce back to the top of the table after agreeing a contract worth £ 750 million with Adidas. This is a 10 year agreement which will see United received a whopping £ 75 million per season.

This comfortably overtakes the current record of £ 31 million being paid to Real Madrid, while Chelsea led the table until now with a figure of £ 30 million. Adidas has been extremely aggressive in terms of securing sponsorship deals with major clubs. They now sponsor Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Chelsea amongst many others.

"Manchester United plc (NYSE:MANU) has reached a 10-year agreement with adidas for a global technical sponsorship and dual branded licensing deal for a minimum guarantee of €940m, subject to certain adjustments, beginning with the 2015-2016 campaign. For the 2014-2015 season, Nike will continue in its role of technical sponsor and trademark licensee," said a statement on the Manchester United’s official site. United have been one of the big spenders in the summer transfer window so far.
