Manchester United are planning to make a big bid for Ashley Young. According to reports, United were also keen on Ashley Young and even went as far as making a £15 million bid.

Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson appeared to confirm that in his programme notes for Saturday's Manchester derby.

'We had an interest in one player and I thought we had a chance of bringing him in, but the other parties involved weren't ready, so we have put it away until the summer,' Ferguson said.United will hope to land the 25-year-old without having to increase their offer, as his contract situation means Villa may be faced with a choice of selling him for less than their £20 million valuation or seeing him walk away as a free agent in the summer of 2012.
