RUUD BACKS ROBIN

  • 20 December 2012

The former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has said that he expects the summer signing Robin van Persie to be a major success at the club. The former Arsenal striker Robin van Persie is the next big Dutchman to arrive at the club following the departure of van Nistelrooy in 2005.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was one of the incredible goal scorers that the club has enjoyed in the last two decades. He managed to score almost 100 goals in just 137 appearances for Manchester United in the league. He has said that he does not see a reason why Robin van Persie will be able to match that record.

The former Arsenal striker has endured a great start to his United career after scoring 11 goals in just 14 matches for the team. He has also been instrumental in helping United win lot of matches coming from behind. Manchester United will be taking on West Ham in the midweek action knowing that they should win at all costs in order to stay at the top of the table. Sir Alex Ferguson has already spoken of his admiration for the West Ham striker Andy Carroll, who comes on the back of scoring in the weekend against Tottenham.

"I spoke to him a little while before and I congratulated him on his fantastic start at the club and I wished him to continue like this. Its like he's been [at United] forever, he scored his first goal quickly, and he [continued] ever since and never stopped. Hopefully it will continue. I think, as he's proving right now he is making the difference on many occasions," said the former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker. Ruud van Nistelrooy was recently in Old Trafford to celebrate the unveiling of the statue for Sir Alex Ferguson.
