Rooney Looking for a Win

  • 2 October 2007

Wayne Rooney is desperate for a win against Roma - to help Manchester United to Champions League Glory.

"I am desperate to get off the mark," said Wayne.

"It has been a disappointing start for myself getting injured. But I am happy to be back playing and have played three games now and hopefully I can start scoring again and help the team win."

Rooney contributed a single strike in the 7-1 massacre of this evening's visitors Roma seven months ago.

He believes the Italians will be keen to wipe out that humiliating memory.

"If I was a Roma player I would be delighted as soon as I saw the draw for the groups to have an opportunity to make it right so soon the season after," he added.

"I am sure they will be fired up for this game more than any other after last season. We have to be aware of that and concentrate on our own job and play the way we can."

"I am desperate to win the Champions League having got so close last season and we didn't play the way we can in Milan. It cost us in the away leg. Hopefully we can get to the final and win it.

"We are more experienced a year on. We have that bit more experience and the players we have brought in will add extra freshness towards the end of the season which we needed last season. It will benefit us."
