Rooney Happy with Partnership

BIRTHDAY boy Wayne Rooney is relishing his new partnership with 'brilliant' United striker Carlos Tevez.

Rooney has run into his best form of the season - he has scored seven goals in six games for club and country - while Tevez is looking more settled with every game.

Rooney, who is 22 today, told ITV1: "There were some really good goals tonight, and we didn't want to be complacent and give them lots of possession.

"It (the forward pairing) is really good. Carlos, I thought, was brilliant. His work-rate and his touches were great. We're gelling really well, and I hope that can continue."

Injuries to Patrice Evra and Paul Scholes before the match had disrupted United's planning - but Rooney insists they are strong enough to cope.

"We've got a few injuries at the moment - a lot of key players missing - but we have a good squad and we know we're capable of winning this competition," he said.

"We play Kiev again in a couple of weeks - and if we win we'll be through (to the next round).

"I hope there's a lot more to come - because after a poor start to the season, we're doing really well."
