Hargreaves Happy to Battle

  • 8 February 2008

Battling for a starting role is nothing new to Owen Hargreaves, who is competing with Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick, Anderson and Darren Fletcher for one of two midfield positions.

"There is competition everywhere," he said. "If you want to play with the best then there is competition everywhere.

"It's good to have that - but the most important thing is that we are successful as a group.

"Whether I get to play is not down to me. I don't get paid to make those decisions, just to play and that's what I'll do."

Hargreaves also revealed that United's players are feeling extra pressure to win the derby as it marks the 50th anniversary of the Munich tragedy.

Commemorating those who lost their lives in the accident, he said, is more important than any inter-city rivalries.

"The most important thing is the Munich crash and I think everybody will have that at the front of their thoughts," he said. "It will be an emotional day and very special to be part of it."
