Ferdinand: Getting Better

  • 1 October 2007

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand admits they're still some way from their peak after victory at Birmingham City on Saturday.

He said: "There's no better feeling than coming off the park than we've won especially with a clean sheet. The longer we continue to do that, the better chance we've got of winning things.

"It is early days. The first couple of weeks of the season weren't too pretty or good for us and people were making a lot of that.

"We don't now want to make a lot of us winning 1-0s and being near top of the table at this stage. It is not important at this point of the season.

"It is good but it is not imperative that we are there right at this moment.

"By Christmas and the after Christmas period and the New Year, if we are around there at that time then we can then start saying we are on the right track."

Ferdinand added: "I think we can improve. We are still not playing free-flowing football. In stages we are doing it but we are not doing it as consistently as we would like throughout games.
