Evans - New Deal?

Manchester United are reportedly willing to offer defender Jonny Evans a new contract in the summer, according to the Daily Star Sunday.

The youngster still has two years remaining on his current deal, yet manager Sir Alex Ferguson appears so keen to keep him at the club that he is willing to offer him a new contract.

The Northern Ireland international has become a crucial member of United’s squad this season, as injuries to Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand have seen him thrust into the first team.

The 21-year-old has impressed at the back for the reigning champions and his performances have reportedly attracted the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Ferguson is thought to be well-aware that Evans has a growing crowd of admirers and, in a bid to dampen their interest, he is willing to offer him a long term deal at the club.

Evans, meanwhile, appears to be happy at Old Trafford and admitted he travelled to last season’s Champions League final to watch his club from the stands.

“I went across to Moscow as a fan, with my dad,” he said.

“I was sat in the crowd and it wasn’t hard for me and I didn’t think it could be me out there, because I had been at Sunderland for six months.
