United are currently without the likes of Gary Neville, Michael Carrick and Owen Hargreaves, and suffered further setbacks ahead of Tuesday's 4-2 win over Dynamo Kiev.

The injury-plagued French international was hoping to make the trip to the Ukraine despite missing the 4-1 win at Aston Villa with a long-term knee problem.

Neville has been out since March with calf and ankle problems but he resumed training late last month.

Boss Sir Alex Ferguson said: "We are hoping to use Gary against Liverpool reserves this week. That's the plan.

The pair have both trained this week, but Sir Alex Ferguson expects them to return either side of next Wednesday's Carling Cup tie with Coventry City.

The England international has been on the sidelines for nearly a month after injuring his ankle against Bolton back in March.

A thigh injury curtailed Neville's first comeback, but the Red Devils stalwart is confident of featuring within the next two weeks.

Eight United players have been named among the top 100 footballers in the world in a list compiled by FourFourTwo magazine.

Cristiano Ronaldo, United's outstanding player in the title-winning 2007/08 campaign, was pipped to first place by AC Milan's Brazilian midfielder Kaka, who was the key figure in the Italian side's Champions League success last term.
